Lawn Fawn’s Winter 2026 Inspiration and Release Week continues! Today we’re introducing the new Winter Forest Backdrop: Portrait, Winter Forest Backdrop: Landscape and Giant Season’s Greetings.
For my card, I used the Winter Forest Backdrop: Portrait to create a snowy birch forest scene and turned it into a shaker card, with an adorable Build-A-Dog busy building his very own snowman.

About This Project
For the main scene, I used the new Winter Forest Backdrop: Portrait and added small hand-drawn lines to the tree trunks to give them the look of birch trees. I added Prisma Glitter along the snowy hills for the sparkle of freshly fallen snow, while the little gems inside the shaker create the look of snow falling through the forest.
Instead of using acetate for the shaker window, I chose vellum to soften the look of the shaker and slightly blur the gems behind it. This keeps the shaker effect more subtle and allows the little winter scene in front to remain the main focus of the card.
The star of the scene is the new Build-A-Dog, who is busy putting the finishing touches on his snowman. I used Build-A-Snowman for the snowman and cut his body from white Shimmer Cardstock from the Neutrals pack, giving the snow just a subtle sheen rather than lots of sparkle. The little bird from Build-A-Bird Feeder is joining in too, bringing over the snowman’s second arm while the dog gets ready to put his hat in place.
To make the dog ready for winter, I added a scarf from Build-A-Critter Winter Accessories, cut from patterned paper from the Favorite Flannel 6×6 Paper Pack.
I finished the scene with a sparkling frame cut from Pixie Dust Sparkle Cardstock using Stitched Rectangle Frames. The Wishing you a pawsome holiday sentiment from the new Cozy Dogs stamp set was heat embossed in white onto a banner cut with Simple Wavy Banners.
Tips & Tricks
One of the things I love about Build-A-Dog is how easily the individual pieces can be adapted to create different poses. For this card, I wanted the dog to look as though we were seeing him slightly from behind while he was building his snowman, rather than looking straight towards us.
To change his pose, I trimmed away one of the original legs and replaced it with another leg positioned in the opposite direction. This small change shifts the perspective of the whole body and makes it look as though the dog has turned towards the snowman.
It’s a very simple alteration, but it’s a useful way to make Build-A dies work more naturally within a particular scene instead of always using the characters exactly as originally designed.
