Lawn Fawn’s Winter Release Week is officially underway! Today we’re introducing Cozy Dogs, the festive Cozy Dogs Christmas Add-On and the new Build-An-Igloo die set.
For my card, I created an interactive winter scene featuring a lot of the adorable pups from the Cozy Dogs set – with a cosy surprise waiting behind the patio doors!

About This Project
For my card, I turned the Ta-Da! Diorama! into a cosy living room with a view into a snowy winter garden. When the card is flat, two pups from Cozy Dogs are sitting inside in front of a large patio door, while the closed shutters hide what’s waiting outside.
Pulling the tabs on either side transforms the card into a three-dimensional diorama and, at the same time, slides the shutters apart to reveal even more pups playing in the snow. It’s such a fun way to add a little surprise to the scene, with the snowy garden only appearing as the shutters open.
To create the patio door, I used the thin frame from the Ta-Da! Diorama! Shop Add-On and backed the opening with acetate to give it the look of glass. For the narrow vertical frame down the centre of the door, I repurposed the curtain rod die from Window Frame – it happened to be just the right shape and size for the job.
For the living room, I created a subtle striped wallpaper using the Skinny Stripes Stencils with Apricot Ink. I also added some festive greenery above the patio door, cut from the new Avocado Cardstock using the Christmas Garland die set.
For the snowy garden, I used the Ta-Da! Diorama! Hillside Inserts cut from Pixie Dust Sparkle Cardstock to create layers of sparkling snow. The background is Mist Cardstock stamped with the snowflakes from Cozy Dogs in Mermaid Ink. I also added a few die-cut snowflakes from Build-A-Critter Winter Accessories, cut from Pixie Dust Sparkle Cardstock for some extra sparkle. Finally, I added trees from the new Winter Forest Backdrop: Landscape in the distance to complete the snowy garden scene.
Tips & Tricks
Creating the Shutters
One of my favourite details on this card is the pair of shutters. Instead of leaving the sliding side panels of the Ta-Da! Diorama! plain, I turned them into part of the scene so that pulling the card open also opens the shutters and gradually reveals the snowy garden behind them.
To create the shutter slats, I cut strips of white cardstock measuring 2 1/4" × 1/2". The 2 1/4" width matches the visible part of each sliding panel. Starting at the bottom, I adhered the strips horizontally across the panels, overlapping each one by 1/4". This leaves 1/4" of each strip visible and creates the layered look of individual shutter slats. I used 12 strips for each shutter.
To finish the mechanism, I added a small pull tab to the outer edge of each sliding panel using one of the tab dies from Double Slider Surprise. Besides making the card easier to open, the tabs also give a little visual hint that there is something interactive to discover.
The Ta-Da! Diorama! mechanism itself doesn’t need to be altered for this technique – the cardstock strips are simply attached to the existing sliding panels. This makes it an easy way to give the mechanism a completely different look while keeping all of its original movement.
