We’re continuing with the Lawn Fawn Fall Inspiration & Release Week, and today Lawn Fawn is introducing the adorable new I Like Cute Moth and I Like Cute Moth Add-On, along with All the Witch Hats. For my first project, I used I Like Cute Moth to create a card with not just one, but two interactive features!
At first, one little moth is flying through the night sky, carrying her lantern. But when you pull the tab, a second moth swishes out from behind the clouds and flies towards her—and as it reaches its final position, the lantern automatically lights up.

About This Project
I used the Swish ’n Pop Pull Tab mechanism to make the second moth fly into the scene. When the pull tab is pulled, the moth swings out from behind the clouds and moves towards the lantern and the waiting moth. I love how this mechanism creates an actual little movement within the scene rather than simply revealing another image.
But I wanted the arriving moth to do something else as well: turn on the lantern! For the light-up element, I used a white Chibitronics LED together with Chibitronics Conductive Fabric Tape and a CR2016 battery to create the circuit inside the card.
The fun part is how the two interactive mechanisms work together. Instead of using a regular push-to-light switch, I added a small magnet behind the moving moth and incorporated a reed switch into the circuit. The reed switch is positioned underneath the spot where the moth ends its movement. As the moth reaches that position, its hidden magnet comes close to the reed switch, closing the circuit and automatically turning on the LED inside the lantern. When the moth moves away again, the circuit opens and the light turns off.
I also built a small battery compartment into the back of the card so that the CR2016 battery can be removed and replaced. I prefer making my light-up cards this way rather than permanently sealing the battery inside the card, so the interactive feature can still be used once the original battery eventually runs out.
For the scene itself, I used the dark blue patterned paper from the new Stripes ’n Sprinkles Autumn Petite Paper Pack for the nighttime sky and added layers of Puffy Cloud Borders to create the clouds and hide the moving mechanism. To make the lantern light up, I carefully cut out the candle flame from the stamped image, creating a small opening in the cardstock. I then backed this opening with a piece of vellum. This allows the LED light to shine through beautifully while diffusing it at the same time, so the light is soft rather than too bright or harsh.
