Lawn Fawn Fall Inspiration & Release Week – Cozy Autumn Bear Card

INSERT HERO IMAGE HERE

Autumn card featuring the Lawn Fawn Big Hugs Pop-Up bear holding a banner and wearing a cosy beanie.

We’re continuing with the Lawn Fawn Fall Inspiration & Release Week, and today I’m sharing three projects featuring the adorable new Big Hugs Pop-Up die. The second project is this sweet autumn card, proving that the adorable bear isn’t just perfect for interactive cards—he also makes a wonderful focal point on a classic card front.

I dressed him up in a cozy autumn outfit, gave him a colorful banner to hold, and paired him with the new Scripty Hugs Outline die to create a cheerful card that’s perfect for sending warm hugs this fall.

About This Project

This card features the adorable new Big Hugs Pop-Up bear in a different way. Instead of using the pop-up mechanism, I turned him into the focal point of a classic card design. I dressed him up in a cozy autumn outfit with the hat and scarf from Woodland Critter Huggers Winter Add-On and created a colourful banner using Fishtail Banner Borders together with Harold’s ABCs.

The “Sending” greeting on the hat comes from Long Distance Hugs and was heat embossed in white, while the large Scripty Hugs sentiment is finished with the brand-new Scripty Hugs Outline, cut from the beautiful new Stripes ’n Sprinkles Autumn Petite Paper Pack.

To add subtle interest to the background, I scattered tone-on-tone die-cut leaves from Small Stitched Leaves and Stitched Leaves across the background. They’re intentionally subtle, adding texture without distracting from the bear. I also stamped the scarf with Gingham Backdrops, giving it a cozy plaid pattern that perfectly matches the autumn theme. A little Ranger Glossy Accents on the bear’s eyes finishes everything off.

One little design tip: the bear’s cozy beanie is actually created from the Santa hat included in Woodland Critter Huggers Winter Add-On. If you’d like to see exactly how I transformed it into an autumn beanie, be sure to check out the Tips & Tricks section below, where I’ve included step-by-step photos of the process.

Tips & Tricks

Turning a Santa Hat into a Cosy Beanie

The hat I’m using here actually started out as the Santa hat from Woodland Critter Huggers Winter Add-On. With just one small modification, it turns into a cosy beanie that’s perfect for autumn and winter projects.

First, die cut the Santa hat as usual. Then, turn the die over and position it over the same piece from the back of the cardstock.

Run it through your die-cutting machine again. This second cut removes the long floppy section of the Santa hat while keeping the rounded part that will become the beanie.

To finish the beanie, simply die cut the decorative pieces in your chosen colour and glue them on.

Another little note: You may notice that both sides of the cardstock have a slightly textured finish. Because the piece is die cut from both sides, the cutting plates leave their impression on each side. I didn’t mind it at all—I just call it a fun “knit texture.” 😅

The top of the hat isn’t perfectly round after this modification, but since I added a pom-pom anyway, it completely hides that little detail. If you prefer, you could even use a real pom-pom for an extra cosy look.
