Lawn Fawn Fall Inspiration & Release Week – Interactive Build-A-Cat Get Well Card

Interactive Lawn Fawn Build-A-Cat get well card with a cat stirring a cauldron in a magical potion workshop.

We’re continuing with the Lawn Fawn Fall Inspiration & Release Week, and today Lawn Fawn is introducing the new Build-A-Cat die set and Henry’s Build-A-Sentiment: Cat stamp set.

For my card, I created a slightly suspicious little medicine-making scene featuring a cat brewing a get-well potion in her cauldron. By pulling and pushing the tab, the cat moves back and forth as if she’s busy stirring her concoction – although the open skull bottle releasing mysterious fumes in the background might make you question her qualifications just a little! 😅

I created my own Pull ’n Rotate Mechanism for this card, and I’ve also put together a written step-by-step tutorialshowing you how to recreate it. You’ll find the link further down in this post.

Let’s take a closer look!

About This Project

The new Build-A-Cat is the star of my little potion workshop, and I used Henry’s Build-A-Sentiment: Cat to create the purr-fect get-well sentiment to go with the scene. Our little cat is busy brewing some medicine in her cauldron – although judging by the mysterious fumes escaping from the skull bottle she apparently forgot to close, I’m not entirely sure I’d trust her prescription! 😅

I used the Workshop Backdrop: Portrait to create the room and filled the shelves with all sorts of magical and slightly suspicious supplies from several different die sets. Rather than using the original lower part of the backdrop, I covered it to create a simple floor instead. Both the dotted wallpaper and the striped flooring are patterned papers from the new Stripes ’n Sprinkles Autumn Petite Paper PackI also added a few Rainbow Star Clay Pieces that I had left over from my potion bottle shaker card, including some that I had coloured black with a Copic marker to match the colour scheme.

The real fun happens when you pull the tab. I used my Pull ’n Rotate Mechanism, which moves the cat back and forth as the tab is pulled out and pushed back in, making it look as though she’s working away at her cauldron. I used the pull tab, decorative tab and notch dies from Swish ’n Pop Pull Tab for the visible controls, while the actual movement is created by the handmade mechanism.

If you’d like to recreate the mechanism, I’ve put together a complete written tutorial with step-by-step instructions. You can find it here:
