We’re continuing with the Lawn Fawn Fall Inspiration & Release Week, and today Lawn Fawn is introducing lots of fun new goodies, including the new Sparkle Cardstock colours. For my first project, I created two cards to show off both the warmer and cooler shades in the collection.
I used the same basic design for both cards, but gave each one a completely different look. The warm-toned version became a birthday card with gold accents and colourful pumpkins, while the cooler shades inspired a Halloween card with silver details and a pair of playful jack-o’-lanterns.
Let’s take a closer look!

I always enjoy adding those little finishing touches that make a project unique. Take a closer look and discover all the details that bring it to life.
About This Project
Both cards started with the Peppermint Stripes Backdrop, which creates a mix of wider and narrower diagonal stripes. For the birthday card, I die cut the backdrop from white cardstock and inlaid the wider white stripes back into place. I then added narrow strips of the new Sparkle Cardstock behind the remaining openings in shades of orange, rose and magenta.
Rather than die cutting the entire Peppermint Stripes Backdrop from every colour of Sparkle Cardstock and using only a few tiny pieces, I simply cut narrow strips from the glitter cardstock and adhered them behind the openings. It uses far less cardstock and is a great way to avoid wasting those pretty sparkly papers. I used exactly the same technique for the Halloween version, this time with a black background and the cooler amethyst, aquamarine and sapphire shades.
To coordinate with the different colour palettes, I added a gold frame to the birthday card and a silver frame to the Halloween card. The sentiments follow the same idea: “Happy Birthday” is heat embossed in gold, while “Happy Halloween” is embossed in silver.
For the focal images, I used Stitched Gourds and Stitched Pumpkins on the birthday card, choosing cardstock colours that echo the warm sparkle shades in the background. For the Halloween version, I used Build-A-Jack-O’-Lantern to create two colourful jack-o’-lanterns that coordinate with the cooler glitter stripes.
I really like how using the same layout and technique resulted in two completely different cards simply by changing the colour palette, metallic accents and occasion.
