Hello crafty friends!

Welcome to the final day of the Lawn Fawn July Inspiration Week! Today’s theme is Summer, so be sure to stop by the Lawn Fawn blog for even more inspiration from the Design Team. While you’re there, don’t miss the Summer Stock-Up Sale, running 17–20 July, with special savings on lots of your favourite Lawn Fawn products.

For today’s theme, I created a cheerful interactive summer card featuring the new Build-a-Drink Pitcher as a fun shaker element, filled with Lemon Clay Pieces and the Sunshine Sequin Mix. I paired it with the interactive Pull ’n Slide Surprise die and added a few extra details to turn the background into a cosy picnic blanket, complete with a handmade pinwheel for the perfect summer finishing touch.

Let’s take a closer look!

About This Project

I used the interactive Pull ’n Slide Surprise die as the base for this project and added a second interactive element by turning the new Build-a-Drink Pitcher into a shaker. Filled with the new Lemon Clay Pieces and the sparkling Sunshine Sequin Mix from the latest release, it becomes a pitcher full of refreshing homemade lemonade and adds lots of playful movement to the card.

To create the summery picnic scene, I covered the background with patterned paper to represent the grass. The interactive panel was die-cut from the new Giddy for Gingham patterned paper, whose classic gingham design was perfect for turning it into a cosy picnic blanket. To finish the look, I used the Scalloped Fringe Border die in a slightly different way. Instead of using the decorative border as intended, I trimmed away the scalloped edge and used only the fringe around the panel to create the look of soft fabric tassels.

The little pinwheel is another handmade detail that adds to the summery picnic scene. It is surprisingly easy to make, and you can find a step-by-step photo tutorial in the Tips & Tricks section below.

Pull the tab to reveal a hidden message and an adorable mouse from the new Make Lemonade stamp set, happily enjoying their refreshing lemonade. This hidden surprise makes the card just as much fun to open as it is to display.

Tips & Tricks

Create Your Own Mini Pinwheel

This little pinwheel is a fun way to add an extra handmade touch to your summer projects. As shown above, all you need is a small square of patterned paper and a few simple cuts and folds. To finish the pinwheel, simply glue a small paper circle where the corners meet in the centre and attach it to a stick or paper strip. If you’d like the pinwheel to spin, punch a small hole through the centre and secure it with a mini brad before attaching it to the stick or paper strip.

I used double-sided patterned paper to create a two-coloured pinwheel, but it looks just as cute with single-sided paper. Adjust the size to suit your project and have fun experimenting with different patterns!
